The Sacred Heart at Garabandal

Dear Friends,

This Friday, June 23 2006, marks the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was through an apparition to Saint Margaret Mary in 1690 that devotion to the Sacred Heart was made known. Our Lord indicated to St. Margaret Mary two special ways of honoring Him. He requested a Communion of Reparation every First Friday and a weekly Holy Hour of Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.

The Sacred Heart appeared forty five years ago to the visionary Jacinta at Garabandal in June of 1961. A brief retelling of this event follows:

The Sacred Heart at Garabandal

It happened shortly after the events began while the four seers were still enjoying the visits of St. Michael the Archangel but before the Blessed Virgin had appeared for the first time.

One evening, in anticipation of their vision, the four girls went to the calleja, the rock filled lane where the angel had been appearing to them. Soon Conchita, Mari Loli and Mari Cruz fell into ecstasy and saw the angel before them while Jacinta, a short distance behind them, couldn’t see anything. Suddenly she too was in ecstasy, only this time her vision was different from theirs.

Before her, about eight to ten feet away, was Jesus standing on a small cloud a few feet above the ground. His heart, slightly off center on the left side of His body, was a brilliant red with rays of white and gold streaming from it. With his left hand He pointed to His Heart and with the right, beckoned for the girl to come to Him. But she couldn’t move even if she wanted to. His glance, while a look of incomparable love, transfixed her and riveted her to the spot.

He wore a white robe with a red garment that hung diagonally down across the body from the right shoulder. His hair, beard and eyes were dark and His skin coloring “normal”. Jacinta later described Him as “the handsomest of men.” Against a cloud-like background, brilliant rays of light emanated from His body that even exceeded in brightness the subsequent visions of Our Lady.

A few moments later He was gone; the vision was over and the child now out of ecstasy, was back to normal.

Sacred Heart of Jesus…Have mercy on us!

The Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel 2005

“I, your Mother, through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel, ask you to amend your lives”

-The Second Message of Our Lady at Garabandal, June 18, 1965

Dear Friends,

On Wednesday, September 29th, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel. Fr. Joe Pelletier first told us in 1968, “Garabandal is a message for a world in crisis.” In 1970, he wrote his first book on the apparitions, God Speaks at Garabandal.

The following excerpt from that book about the importance of St. Michael at Garabandal is even more enlightening and profound now, with forty years of hindsight, than when it was written.

“At Garabandal, the first heavenly visitor to appear was also an angel, the archangel St. Michael. Like the angel of Fatima, he came before Our Lady did and his initial mission was to prepare the visionaries for her coming and also to help set the spiritual climate which constitutes such and important part of the apparitions. But the fact that the angel of Garabandal was the archangel St. Michael has a special meaning. It indicated the basic theme of what was happening in this little village. Saint Michael’s very presence proclaimed the great spiritual drama that was unfolding on earth and of which Garabandal was to be one of the very important acts. It heralded a gigantic struggle in the world between the forces of good and the forces of evil…

Those who have taken to heart the Garabandal Message understand this and pray frequently to him whom the Church has always invoked as a powerful ally in its struggle with the devil.”
-God Speaks at Garabandal, pg. 115

Of the interviews given by the visionaries on this topic, the most interesting and illuminating was given by Conchita in 1981 to J. Dominguez, M.D entitled “St. Michael at Garabandal”. This interview was published in GARABANDAL magazine and is available at our website.

I urge you to read it and by reading it, increase your devotion to St. Michael as Our Lady advised.

In Union of Prayer,

Joey Lomangino

JUNE 18, 1965-JUNE 18, 2005

Dear Friends,

Forty years ago I was a witness for the Second Message of Garabandal on June 18, l965. I had previously visited the village and was trying to spread the Message and the story of Padre Pio in New York with my book of photographs and Braille captions when I received a letter at home from Conchita telling me to come to the village for the Second Message. Conchita alone received the Message, it was read to the crowd, and this is what I heard:

“June 18, 1965 – As my Message of October 18 has not been complied with and has not been made known to the world, I am advising you that this is the last one. Before the cup was filling up. Now it is flowing over. Many Cardinals, bishops and priests are on the road to perdition and are taking many souls with them. Less and less importance is being given to the Eucharist. You should turn the wrath of God away from yourselves by your efforts. If you ask His forgiveness with sincere hearts, He will pardon you. I, your Mother, through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel, ask you to amend your lives. You are now receiving the last warnings. I love you very much and do not want your condemnation. Pray to us with Sincerity and we will grant your requests. You should make many sacrifices. Think about the Passion of Jesus.”

I left Garabandal determined to do even more to spread Our Lady’s Message. I met priests with courage and devotion who assisted me through the first tough years and remained life-long friends. I believe, as they did, that the Message of Garabandal was for the whole world.

Spreading the Message has, for all these many years, been a joy and a suffering. The words were too hard for many to hear, especially among the clergy. But the thousands worldwide who accepted and who spread the Message as Our Lady requested, saw real conversions and a deepening of their faith. Like the Story of the Pearl once they had received the grace they couldn’t stop. Many who worked with me have since gone on to their eternal reward. Others have taken their place and continue the work.

From that time, in America in the l960’s, we have seen the return of devotion to the Blessed Mother and the rosary and more recently the return of devotion to the Eucharist and Eucharistic adoration. John Paul II in his final years gave us the Luminous Mysteries, declared the Year of the Rosary and the Year of the Eucharist, stating in his great encyclical that the Eucharist is the “Source and Summit” of Christian life. His words seem to strongly echo the theme of the importance of the Eucharist in the Message of Garabandal.

With the death of Pope John Paul II and the “change of the era”, we now look to Pope Benedict XVI to continue the work of his predecessor in fostering Eucharistic adoration, Marian devotion, working for the unity of the churches and strengthening the priesthood. We pledge him our loyalty and obedience and ask everyone to join us in union of prayer for him each day. +

Instant internet communication at the time of the death of Pope John Paul II showed the value of our website for future Garabandal Events.

In response to the need for clarification of the prophecy of the three popes, over 1.3 million hits registered on the Prophecies page in the first weeks of April. Fr. Turner’s article on that page “John Paul II- Is He the Last Pope?” taken from the 1979 issue of GARABANDAL Magazine, helped to alleviate the confusion.

The video, After the Visions, was downloaded continuously. The New York Center was flooded with emails. The classic books, Our Lady Comes to Garabandal by Father Pelletier and She Went in Haste to the Mountain by Eusebio Garcia de Pesquera, O.F.M., CAP, were accessed for research purposes daily. For this reason, attempts to update or edit these books are misguided. These classics have passed the test of time. Written by priest-scholars, aided by the young visionaries themselves and witnesses present for the apparitions, their work cannot be posthumously revised or rewritten. Our website assures instantaneous access to these original books, articles and photographs for personal use without a fee or subscription. We will continue to issue information by email as the need arises.

New centers are opening. We heard by email from a diocese of 1,000 Catholics in Izkuk, Turkey with requests for medals, rosaries, Message videos, holy cards and books. Mission rosaries, generously donated to the New York Center, went to Pakistan and Brazil. Message videos and holy cards in Ukrainian were shipped to two major cities and a seminary in the Ukraine. Leaflets and holy cards in Tagalog went to the Philippine Islands. Message videos in Cantonese continue to enter China by courier each month. Garabandal books were mailed to U.S. prisons. Polish Message videos and holy cards were distributed to immigrant communities on Long Island, New York.

Project Africa: Certainly Christian Africans know the meaning of sacrifice and penance. Once again this summer we will be shipping Garabandal packages into many parts of Africa. Over two hundred priests and laypeople wait for these supplies. Religious materials are scarce and in some areas the only religious materials received gratis are from the Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New York. Priests who receive these packages express their gratitude in Masses offered on the 18th of the month for Workers and benefactors. Last summer, we asked the priests to write back and tell us the particular month they could offer a Mass. This year, Masses will be said on the 18th of every month by African priests.

Our Lady’s Kiss: The use of the Kissed Objects has increased and graces and conversions continue to be reported by email. It was the request of the Blessed Mother to have her Kiss distributed. Medals received from the New York Center today contain a small piece of Conchita’s missal kissed by Our Lady during the apparitions. The Promises made by Our Blessed Mother and the Message of Garabandal are printed on the folder holding the medal. Requests by post or email for Kissed Objects will be honored until the supply is exhausted. Please remember to include your address and zip code with your request.

Forty years have passed since that day in 1965 in the village of Garabandal. Padre Pio is now Saint Pio. Conchita is a grandmother and I will be 75 years old in October. From time to time, I receive emails from people anxious about the date of the the Miracle. I want to assure you that I understand, and remain confident that on the day of the Miracle I will get my new eyes and as Our Lady said, “They will be for the Glory of God”. Until then we wait and pray and look forward to the coming Events of Garabandal.

In union with your prayers and support, we hope to continue to spread Our Lady’s Message throughout the world.

In Union of Prayer,

Joey Lomangino

End of the Epoch

Dear Friends,

The life and mission of Pope John Paul II on earth ended in Rome on April 2, 2005.

We felt both deep sadness and great joy when we heard that Pope John Paul II had whispered his last “Amen”. This Pope has touched the lives of many millions. Our own family had the privilege of receiving his blessing in 1989 in Rome, a moment we will never forget.

For those interested in the Garabandal prophecy tied to the passing of this Pope, our website  features the article “John Paul II – Is He the Last Pope?” by Fr. Francois Turner published in Garabandal Magazine (1972-2002) by the Workers of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in New York.

This article contains one of the earliest and most prudent reflections on the prophecy by a priest. Fr. Turner (RIP), an expert on Garabandal, was known as a man of intellect, candor and accuracy. Like many of the events surrounding the Garabandal apparitions, he knew this prophecy would not be thoroughly understood until viewed with hindsight after the events of Garabandal, including the Warning and Miracle, had concluded.

Fr. Turner did not personally foresee the end of the papacy as we know it, only that the end of this papacy would mark the change of the era, “the end of the present period” (el fin de los tiempos).

Father Turner’s is the best and most valid explanation of many written on this subject. Please remember, we do not verify statements published in other magazines. Those who are interested should request verification directly by email or letter from the author of the article. We cannot confirm statements made in private conversations by any of the visionaries and do not endorse speculation.

Now, as John Paul II enters his eternal reward, we thank God for him and pray for his eternal rest. As was announced, John Paul II will be buried at Saint Peter’s in Rome on Friday April 8, 2005. Already the Cardinals are assembling in Rome and following the Pope’s burial, the process will begin to choose the 265th Pope. Remember every day to offer your masses and rosaries for the man soon to be chosen to follow John Paul II as the next successor to St. Peter.

In Union of Prayer,

Joey Lomangino

Closing the Catalogue

Dear Friend of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

The internet has brought the spread of Our Lady’s Message of Garabandal around the world in a way unknown in 1961 when the first reports of four little girls seeing the Blessed Mother came out of a tiny village in the mountains of northern Spain.

Over the last 40 years a generation of Garabandal Workers has answered the request of the Blessed Mother to make her Message known. We are grateful to God for this opportunity now to step aside and yet continue to spread the Message in a new way as we await the coming prophesied Warning and Miracle which will be the proof of the authenticity of Garabandal.

In May, 2002, we moved with the times to promote the Message going on the internet with a huge and comprehensive website- The transition is complete. Now we offer our remaining inventory until all is gone or until December, 2004, whichever comes first.

(See Description of Books and Videos on Page 1 of the Garabandal Materials Catalog)

BOOKS: To accommodate the transition to the internet, the 5 classic Garabandal Books and the Vigil Guide were reprinted with new covers, sharper photos and original content. There are no plans to reprint as these books can be read or printed off the website. The pages of photos are priceless. These books are great gifts for family, friends or collectors.

VIDEOS: The Message of Garabandal video, available in all its translations is being viewed daily in many languages around the world on the website. Conchita’s interview, After the Visions, is very popular along with Joey Lomangino on Mother Angelica Live. These videos can be downloaded to your computer for your personal use. Copies of all three videos in English are available until the current stock is depleted.

OTHER PRINTED MATERIALS: Requests for all other printing in stock; pictures,
holy cards, leaflets, etc. shown on page 2 of the Catalog will be mailed out promptly

KISSED OBJECTS: The Blessed Mother told the young visionary Conchita she wanted kissed objects distributed. The promises made to those who use the kissed missal medals with faith, or who venerate them, are as valid today as they were during the apparitions. We will continue to distribute the medals with the little piece of Conchita’s kissed missal page in them as long as they are available. Chain rosaries with missal medal centerpieces are rare but what has been made will be distributed. There is a limit of only one of each kissed missal medal item per request.

THE SCAPULAR: This important sacramental was brought to Garabandal by Our Lady of Mount Carmel. To encourage devotion to the scapular and as a protection in these evil times, we offer one simple brown scapular to those who request one to wear. *******

MAGAZINES: Three Special Editions and over 1000 pages of Garabandal Magazine articles are now available on the web. The official magazine of the Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel de Garabandal, Garabandal Magazine is out of publication. It is not affiliated with any newsletters, current magazines or journals using its name or format to solicit subscriptions or donations. Our mailings continue to come from Lindenhurst, New York. To protect its authenticity, Garabandal Magazine issues have been registered with the Library of Congress United States Copyright Office in Washington D.C. and content cannot be altered or sold. Articles, interviews and testimonies are free on the internet at

THE WARNING AND MIRACLE: Many emails came in March and April as a result of rumors regarding the date of the Miracle. Careless speculation causes anxiety for many who are concerned about loved ones. Remember, the worldwide Warning, which will be felt by every man, woman and child, must come first. You will not miss the Warning!

THE E-MAIL LIST: We have established an e-mail list on our website and many thousands have signed on. This feature is being used to send messages such as this. The primary purpose is to contact everyone after the Warning and also to circulate worldwide the eight day announcement Conchita will give before the Miracle. If you change your e-mail address, you must re-enter the new one. As a test, on June 18, 2004, we will send our e-mail list subscribers the complete Message of Garabandal to pass on to their respective e-mail lists. If you do not receive it, please re-enter your e-mail address to help us keep the list up to date. If you have any technical problem with the e-mail list or the website, please contact our webmaster at the address on the contact link. You will receive prompt service.

IN CONCLUSION: Two Anniversaries are celebrated this year. The 30th Anniversary of the establishment of the Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel de Garabandal, Inc. and the 40th Anniversary of the letter of March 19, 1964 from the visionary Conchita to Joey Lomangino telling him, “the Virgin said on the day of the great miracle, Joey will receive new eyes, and they will be for the glory of God.” Next year will be the 40th Anniversary of the Second Message, June 18, 1965.The Blessed Mother, disappointed with our lack of effort, sent Saint Michael the Archangel with her final Message which began “As my Message has not been complied with and has not been made known the world”- – -. It is the MESSAGE OF GARABANDAL that is important. As Conchita said, “If we fulfill the Message, it doesn’t matter that we don’t believe in the apparitions.”

Thank you for your support through the years. Please remember to promote the Message as we remain In Union of Prayer.

Our Lady’s Kiss

Dear Friend of Our Lady,

As more people learn of Garabandal through the website we have received requests for information on the small relic medals offered by the New York Center. Those who have met me know that I carry a large medal kissed by the Blessed Mother at Garabandal given to me by Conchita in 1964. It is said to be the most venerated medal of all the objects kissed during the apparitions. Some people have inquired if these small medals contain the same promise as mine. The answer is absolutely yes. These medals, known by some as Our Lady’s Kiss, have a special connection to November 13 so I would like to use today’s letter to share with you the importance of these little sacramentals.

The kissing of objects started early in the apparitions and was considered vital by Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Garabandal. She often kissed rosaries, crucifixes, medals and wedding rings. Missals were also among these sacramentals. Our Lady would fan the pages as she kissed the missals, thereby kissing all the pages. The kissing of these objects was the principle purpose of her very last visit at Garabandal on November 13, 1965. Many months in advance Our Lady told Conchita that the kissing of objects would take place at the pines on this date. Our Lady told Conchita to distribute these objects because they have great importance.

These articles not only have the special distinction of Our Lady’s kiss but two special graces were attached to them.

  1. Our Lady said, “Through the kiss I bestow on these objects, my Son will performprodigies. Distribute them to others.”
  2. “Those who wear them with faith and devotion will do their purgatory on earth.”

An actual piece of missal kissed by Our Lady of Mount Carmel is in this medal. It
carries the same promise as any other object kissed by Our Lady at Garabandal.

These small medals should be regarded as a precious gift and handled with the utmost respect. The medals distributed by the New York Center are made from the remaining pages of Conchita’s missal with a design she approved. To fulfill Our Lady’s request to distribute these kissed objects, the New York Center offers the Relic Medal (BL02) as a gift (one per request) while the supply lasts.

I encourage you to read the account of November 13 and the kissed objects as recorded by Father Eusebio Garcia de Pesquera in She Went in Haste to the Mountain . On November 13, Our Lady clearly stated the purpose of her more than 2000 visits to Garabandal, “Conchita, I do not come only for you. I come for all my children, with the desire of bringing them to our hearts.” Please continue to pray and promote the Message of Garabandal.

Saint Pio

Dear Friend of Our Lady,

May 25th is the birthday of Padre Pio. Those who have read Joey’s Story are aware St. Pio changed my life. Today, in a special way, I ask him to intercede before God on behalf of my family, friends, the Workers of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel de Garabandal, and you who join us by email. Why not ask this new saint for a special favor on his birthday?

We are also celebrating the first anniversary of our website, which was launched May 25, 2002 and blessed and consecrated shortly after. We chose this date because of the connection between Garabandal and Padre Pio. We are amazed by the consistently high number of visits to our site and the tens of thousands who over the past year have read articles, viewed the videos and downloaded the books gratis.

Recently we have added After the Visions  which features a rare video interview with visionary Conchita Gonzales in which she expresses her thoughts on the apparitions and describes in her own words the Warning and Miracle.

I spoke with Conchita recently and she told me to remind everyone that what is important about Garabandal is the MESSAGE. It isn’t necessary to try to connect Garabandal to saints and celebrities who believe, the Message of Garabandal stands on its own. It does not matter if people believe the apparitions, if they live the Message.

No one will miss the Warning. Regarding the Miracle, Conchita herself said, “Don’t worry about where you will sleep or what you will eat for two days. The Blessed Mother said, “ALL WILL GO WELL.” What is inconvenience when you will witness a Miracle?”

I am told there are now 11,000 Garabandal websites. A search for the The Workers of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel shows over 3,000 sites under various names. Our official site is which was established after the termination of Garabandal Magazine in early 2002. We currently have five times as many email subscribers as we had magazine subscribers, even in the best years. I thank our Lady for continuing to allow the Workers here at the New York Center to promote the Message with such success in this new way.

It was our original intention, God willing, to use this email connection at the time of the Warning and for the Eight Day Announcement prior to the Miracle and we still hope to do so. I will continue to send out this letter occasionally, although not often, just to keep in touch. The Workers of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel thank you for your prayers and support. You all and your email intentions are remembered in my rosaries and the Mass for the Workers said on the 18th of every month. Saint Pio-pray for us!

In Union of Prayer,

Joey Lomangino

35th Anniversary of The Workers

Dear Friend of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel,

In 1963, when I returned to New York from my first visit to Garabandal, I had a little holy card in my pocket from the visionary, Conchita Gonzales. On the back was Our Lady’s Message of October 18, 1961. Leaving Garabandal, Conchita had said to me, “Will you do it sir, and ask others to do it.” In five years, on February 29th 1968, The Workers of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel de Garabandal Inc. was officially established and incorporated. Word of our organization spread connecting our friends and benefactors through a little newsletter called Needles. Throughout the last thirty five years many people have come and made their contribution to the growth of the Center and the spread of the Message. I am grateful to them and to Our Lady. They have made the “House of Charity” a blessed place.

We have completed the transition from GARABANDAL Magazine to the internet. Garabandal.usis reaching a new generation in homes, offices and classrooms around the world and in all time zones. Every day, hundreds are viewing the Message of Garabandal video in many languages, reading the classic books of Fathers Laffineur, Turner, Pelletier, and Ramon Perez, printing their own copy gratis. The facts in these books will always remain the authority and hard copies are now available for a donation through the New York Center Materials Catalogue. I am excited to know the number of people watching the Message of Garabandal streaming video in Spanish and English on the website. Recently, the Korean and Romanian language versions have also had a sizeable audience.

The Message of Garabandal came to a world in crisis. Not just a crisis of nations or a crisis of cultures but a deeper crisis-a crisis of individual faith. We get lost without prayer. We cannot fulfill the obligations of our state in life. The crisis in the priesthood comes from a lack of prayer-priests are not praying, people are not praying for their priests. We know Satan’s plan: No priests-no Eucharist. We ask ourselves; how many holy hours, masses and rosaries for priests have been said since Our Lady warned us of the evil attack under way to destroy the priesthood? Prayer, starting with the Morning Offering of Reparation has to be worked into our daily routine in order to know God’s Will and do His work.

“Make many sacrifices, perform much penance, and visit the Blessed Sacrament frequently. But first we must lead good lives” is the beginning of the First Message. What was the reaction of those who traveled to the remote mountain village of Garabandal to hear the Message on October 18, 1961? Disappointment. What is the reaction today? Disappointment. The current state of the world, the winds of war and the slowing global economy have created a new interest among those searching for answers and a spiritual life. This Message will be a life changing experience for many who find it. Garabandal is about conversion.

Garabandal is open and the Message can be promoted. The apparitions ended in 1965 and there is nothing new to report. The next event will be the world-wide Warning and everyone will know it is from God. Read about it, as Conchita would say, “It’s all in the books”.

Each day, in Union of Prayer with you, I say my rosaries for those who have worked with me and those I have met on my travels. Many have already gone to God. Almost forty years later, at age 72, I can testify to the good fruits produced by the Workers of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and the grace and peace I receive from doing Our Lady’s work.

In Union of Prayer,

Joey Lomangino
