Everything You Do Becomes a Sacrifice

Dear Friends of Our Lady,

In 2002 the New York Center closed GARABANDAL Magazine and moved our operations to the Internet. That year we sent out our first email to stay in touch with our former subscribers and to reach out to new promoters and friends. This form of communication has become an effective means for passing on the news and distributing material. Archived emails can be reviewed at the bottom of the Joey’s Message page of our website which presents a history of our recent work on the web.

Over the years we have sent out reflections emphasizing different aspects of the Message. They include the importance of Eucharistic devotion and the rosary, prayer for priests and the special dignity of the priesthood, devotion to Saint Michael and the necessity of the scapular. Today we want to highlight the important practice of sacrifice and penance as it pertains to Garabandal.

The sacrifice and penance called for by Our Lady at Fatima and again in the Garabandal Message is simply the fulfillment of our state in life, remaining faithful to the vocation to which we are called, and the patient acceptance of the ordinary penances that come to us everyday. It is not the severe asceticism of the hermits; hair shirts, bread and water, sleeping on the floor, or putting stones in your shoes. For many people their simple daily routine is far more challenging than these other extreme notions of penance.

The daily prayer of consecration is known as the Morning Offering of Reparation. By reciting this prayer faithfully, everything you do each day becomes a consecrated sacrifice and merits the grace which converts sinners, frees souls in Purgatory, and strengthens the Church. Imagine how powerful this prayer can be at this particular moment for our nation, the Church and the world in the midst of such acute suffering and widespread hardship.

The prayer is easily memorized. We have included it below. We encourage you to consecrate your life to God each day through the Morning Offering and to promote this prayer in your own home and where you can. Accept the trials and suffering that must come in the ordinary course of life with courage and trust and unite yourself to God, thinking of the Passion of Jesus.

Promoting the Message:
-For our English and Spanish speaking subscribers who are members of a family or religious prayer group or lay association and would like to distribute DVDs of the Message of Garabandal among the group, send an email with DVD PACK in the subject line to joey@garabandalny.org and we will send you a package of 10 DVDs to distribute. Please include the name of the organization, your name, address, country and zip code. Remember to seek the approval of the appropriate authority, if necessary, before distributing these DVDs.

The Scapular:
-The rosary and scapular are essential in this time of crisis. If you cannot easily obtain a scapular, send an email with SCAPULAR in the subject line to joey@garabandalny.org with your mailing address included and we will provide you with one gratis.

Garabandal on the Internet:
-We want to encourage the Garabandal web community around the world to continue their efforts in making Our Lady’s Message known as she requested. If you forward our emails to your contacts list, post a link to our site in chat rooms and message boards or share the Garabandal story with friends on a social network site, you are very much a part of Our Lady’s work, a true Worker of Our Lady of Mount Carmel de Garabandal.

We are very grateful for your assistance and are sure you will share in the blessings we all receive from this wonderful work. We especially want to thank those who spread the Message in other countries and languages, reaching those we cannot. This year we have heard from internet promoters in over forty five foreign countries. We are united with all of you in your prayers and works and you and your intentions are certainly included when the Masses for the Workers around the world are said on the 18th of each month. Please continue to pray and promote.

Mari Loli Lafleur

It was with great sadness that we were informed late last night of the death of Garabandal visionary Mari Loli Lafleur in Boston after a long illness. She was very much loved by everyone involved in the promotion of Garabandal. We ask your prayers for Mari Loli and her family and close friends.

Fortieth Anniversary of the New York Center

Dear Friends of Our Lady,

In 1968, Joey Lomangino and several early promoters decided to organize the promotion of the Message of Our Lady of Mount Carmel de Garabandal given in Spain in 1961 and 1965.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the incorporation of the Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel de Garabandal in America.

At the time of the apparitions, Our Lady said to Conchita, “The House of Charity that Joey will establish in New York will give great glory to God.” No one knew exactly what that would entail nor could they imagine the span of time required for the work to be accomplished and for things to come to fruition in the fullness of time.

The work of the New York Center has always been the worldwide promotion of the Message in the various opportunities and methods available each decade.Yet under the surface, it has been the workers who have benefited most from the grace and privilege of working for Our Lady.

All who have been associated with the Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Lindenhurst can attest to countless good works, conversions, vocations of all kinds as well as miracles and healings, great and small, over the past forty years.

For many years, the Center also indirectly promoted the cause of Padre Pio and we are confident that having seen the Holy Capuchin made a saint in our time, we will endure by Our Lady’s assistance to the fulfillment of the Warning and Miracle.

Garabandal is for a world in crisis. But it is exactly for this reason that it is a message of hope. Standing behind the wonderful and terrible predictions are the enduring support and concern of the supernatural order for the Church and Humanity.

Our Lord and Our Lady are extremely solicitous for us and will pursue a fallen world to the brink of chaos and renew it if we will only cooperate. “I love you very much and do not want your condemnation,” are the pleading words of a pierced and tender heart, the heart of a mother.

Garabandal promises such impressive events not as an empty display of spectacle but to reinforce belief and inspire faith in the existence of the Divine to a world that has reached lukewarm ambivalence. As Marian Christians and believers in the apparitions we should never lose sight of the wonderful hope Our Lady has given us at Garabandal.

It is fitting at such anniversaries to remember all those whose contributions increased the spread of the Message around the world for forty years and to express gratitude to God for the great graces we have received and the wonderful things we have witnessed in service to Our Blessed Mother.

Due to repeated requests, we have compiled a list of the most recurring questions sent to us by letter and email. We encourage all to spend time reading and learning the basic facts of the apparitions from the original sources found on our website. Thank you, our friends and benefactors, for your continued prayerful support of this apostolate. Great days are coming!

Father Gilsdorf: Garabandal Saved My Priestly Life

“Our Lady of Garabandal has sustained my priestly life all these years. With joy and gratitude I present my testimony…”

These are the words of Fr. Richard W. Gilsdorf taken from an article written for GARABANDAL Magazine in July 1990. Fr. Gilsdorf, who passed away in 2005, spent a life of priestly service to the people of the Diocese of Green Bay Wisconsin. He was a supremely well educated scripture scholar holding degrees from Columbia University and the Sorbonne and actively involved in the debate on the course of the Catholic Church in America.

As a published author his articles appeared in the Homiletic and Pastoral Review and The Wanderer and have been collected in a recently released work The Signs of the Times: Understanding the Church since Vatican II. He was the founder and first president of the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy. Like Father John Hardon, he was also a firm believer in the Garabandal events, spreading the tenets of Our Lady’s Message through his priestly ministry.

We are most fortunate to have the certainty that many of the initial impressions of the Garabandal events were recorded and interpreted by holy priests. We preserve on our website the published writings of Fathers Pelletier, Turner, Benac, Laffineur and de Pesquera as the primary historical documents which chronicle the apparitions and maintain their interpretations of the prophecies.

Among these priests, we would highlight this work by Fr. Gilsdorf for its emphasis on the dignity of the priesthood which is derived from the central role of the Eucharist in the Church and also for the comparison of the Garabandal prophecies to the revelations of St. Faustina Kowalska. In the wake of Our Holy Father’s successful visit to America, we echo Fr. Gilsdorf’s plea to renew the priestly life and the life of the Church throughout the world by drawing nearer to Our Lady and living her Message more fully in our daily lives.

Thanks to your generosity we are able to supply gratis Garabandal materials to priests who promote Garabandal in Africa. Every penny donated goes to the promotion of the Message. Masses are offered for the Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and our benefactors on the 18th of every month. Please continue to pray and make the Message known as Our Lady requested.

The Scapular of Mount Carmel

Dear Friends of Our Lady,

Each year on July 16th the Church honors the Blessed Mother under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

You may not know that the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel goes back into the Middle Ages. At that time, Our Lady gave us the gift of the scapular through St. Simon Stock. When she appeared under this title, as she did at both Lourdes and Fatima, her message was the same; strong encouragement to devotion of the scapular.

On July 1, 1961 the angel announced to the four visionaries at Garabandal that Our Lady would appear to them as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She came on Sunday, July 2nd, dressed in blue and white as she had appeared to St. Simon Stock and wearing a large brown scapular on her wrist.

I want to bring to your attention two brief articles on our website which may deepen your appreciation for this title chosen by Our Lady in this time of crisis. We hope they will increase your devotion to the scapular.

In the first, Abbe Combe explains the significance of Mount Carmel reaching back into the Old Testament. In the second, Irene Dutra tells the story of the scapular and why it is important that we wear it.

We invite you to read these articles and reflect on them. If you do not have a scapular, please send me an email at Joey@garabandalny.org and we will send one to you gratis. Type SCAPULAR in the subject line and include your name, address, zip code and country.

Holy Thursday 2007

Dear Friends,

On the evening of the Last Supper, Jesus, gathered with his apostles in the Upper Room, instituted the Holy Eucharist and established the sacrament of Holy Orders – the sacred ministry of priesthood.

On this Holy Thursday, we wish to commemorate these sacraments which are at the heart of the Message of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel de Garabandal. During her visits to the four young girls from 1961 to 1965, Our Lady emphasized the great importance of these sacraments and encouraged all of us to pray for priests and visit the Blessed Sacrament frequently.

We invite you to follow the links below to our website, www.garabandal.us. You will find two brilliant articles which are written by two priests who were close to the events and the promotion of the Message. These articles which were originally published in GARABANDAL Magazine (1972-2002) offer insightful reflections on the importance of these sacraments as enlightened by Our Lady’s words and instructions to the visionaries. We hope that reading and reflecting on these timeless lessons will deepen your Lenten meditations today and in the days to come.

The Eucharistic Message of Garabandal by Rev. Joseph A. Pelletier A.A.
The Priesthood by Father Francois Turner O.P.

It is one of the great joys of my work for Our Lady that I have been able to know and work closely with these brilliant and holy priests. For this I am grateful to God. Many of their articles and books are available gratis on our website and I encourage you to read and reflect on them as often as you can.

On behalf of our family and the Workers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we wish you a Blessed and Happy Easter.

In Union of Prayer,

Joey Lomangino

Spread the Message

Dear Friends of Our Lady,

Forty five years ago today, on October 18, 1961, the First Message of Garabandal was read at the pines…

“We must make many sacrifices, perform much penance, and visit the Blessed Sacrament frequently. But first we must lead good lives. If we do not, a chastisement will befall us. The cup is already filling up and if we do not change, a very great chastisement will come upon us.”

With these four simple sentences our Blessed Mother gave the world the remedy to convert sinners, strengthen the Church and avoid the future chastisement. At the time, many in the crowd who had made the journey to hear what they hoped was a momentous announcement were greatly disappointed. Some wondered how such a simple message could be accepted by a society looking for the spectacular.

Only a few listened and four years later Our Lady, disappointed with the lack of effort, sent Saint Michael with her second Message. Our Lady of Mount Carmel is still looking for those willing to distribute this simple Message with the hope that by living it, souls can be saved and many more will come to love her Son, Jesus.

This is where you come in.

In 2002, after years of promoting Garabandal in the traditional ways we went online with www.Garabandal.us. At the time, Pope John Paul II was exhorting apostolates to take to the internet. He said, “We shouldn’t be afraid to put to sea on the vast ocean of information…we must become part of this ever more finely woven web of information.”

We turned our full efforts and resources to the internet so that all the information and materials we have could be offered free around the world. Everything we have went up…gratis. The response has been tremendous and we continue to receive emails from people from around the world who are just now learning of the apparitions through the website.

I strongly encourage you to help us spread Our Lady’s Message on the internet. Forward this email to your email list. Tell them about Garabandal.us and the information about Our Lady’s Messages and the Coming Events. Every effort made on behalf of Our Lady to make her message known, no matter how small, is significant. Pray for the successful spread of the message throughout the world.

Remember, Garabandal is for a world in crisis. Please pray and promote.

In Union of Prayer,

Joey Lomangino
